Jake Richings - Speaking and Training

Jake was invited to Europe House, Westminster, to discuss the potential EU/UK Youth Deal following the negotiations between the UK and EU leadership. In the audience were policy makers, activists and educators.

Jake evidenced how and EU/UK Youth Deal, such as Erasmus+ would be an investment in skills. However he added how it wouldn't be the only policy 'lever' the government could invest in the next generation through.

He also shared the importance of engaging disengaged groups that would perceive rejoining Erasmus+ as pro-European, rather than pro-opportunity.

Jake delivered his TEDx talk, "How to engage young people in careers" to a packed theatre in Northwich in 2024.

He discussed how young people's career aspirations are changing but parents, teachers and businesses aren't keeping up.

Jake clarified how we needn't wait for a revolution in curriculum to upskill and inspire young people more effectively.

Drawing on his own experience finding 'passion' in work, Jake's though-provoking and humorous seven-minute talk left the audience with a clear call to action - ditch the question "What do you want to be when you grow up?"

Jake joined American organisation, Careers Thought Leaders, to run a training session at their 2024 Symposium in Lisbon, Portugal in April 2024.

He shared his interactive one hour workshop "How to engage young people in careers conversations" to an audience of Careers Advisors, CV Writers, and Recruiters.

He highlighted examples of how creative approaches are used to engage young people in education - from TikTok Videos to Board Games.

Even audience members who were self proclaimed 'technophobes' understood how digital content, like short-form video, could be a successful marketing strategy to engage young people in having careers conversations.

The audience left with an excitement to be creative and innovative in their practices.
